Thinking about the cost of corn and wheat because of shortage, and because of the need for more corn there is not enough wheat being grown and prices are affecting everyone, around 15 years ago or so, I was out west and met farmers who were being PAID BY THE GOVERNMENT - NOT TO RAISE CROPS.
If this is still happening, maybe it is time for change. I could not find any information on this. I hope someone can.
I wish Fox would do a breakdown of what percentage of the rise in cost really goes to the farmer, the production company, and transportation, etc.,, to know if any of the middlemen are in reality, just taking advantage of this situation to fill their pockets.

I was not happy to read about the high level of bromine and chemicals in children's car seats and reading the gases created when heat and light is combined with these chemicals which are harmful to, not only the health of the child, but the other people in the car.
I have concern about the chemicals that the LAW says must be applied to all new mattresses on which we spend 1/3 of our lives. What is used as a fire retardant in them and what does it do to us?
What does the heat from our bodies do with these chemicals? And breathing them constantly for 6 to 8 hours every night of our lives.
My gut feeling was not good when I learned that news. I do not want to buy and sleep on more chemicals. Why should I? I do not smoke, light fires and cook meals on my bed.
PLEASE FOX, LET US KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE BEING FORCED TO SLEEP ON SO THAT WE CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
I am sure everyone has read that the "new and efficient" light bulbs contain mercury and that if one breaks there are rules on what to do, like get out of the room????!!! Not only they are being made into a law, taking the choice of what kind of light bulb we want to use away from us. And the fact that ALL of them are made in China.
Oh, I did check with the people working at our local recycling center. They are aware of the danger TO THEM of the long fluorescent bulbs but have not been told anything about the small ones. Whether long or small, a danger is a danger is a danger.
Can you imagine that instead of going to darkened back streets to buy illegal drugs in the near future, they will be making a fortune selling incandescent light bulbs and mattresses without chemicals? And other natural items, or items American made? Wonder what the fines/jail time will be for the buyer and seller.
Sound silly? Not as silly as all of us allowing government to take away more and more freedoms of choice from us. Plus, it ticks me off that chemical companies are making a fortune - for our health or screw our health for their profit ....
The camel that broke the straw's back happened today when even though I have not chewed gum for about 15 years, I thought it would be fun. I could not find a gum that was all chemicals, artificial flavors, and artificial sugars. All that give me a headache. All these chemicals really concern me.

Traffic
I learned to pray every day, twice a day, before going on I-80 for several years. Even though I have not traveled it in about a year, I dreaded the thought of being on it Saturday morning but prayer of safety always worked so off I went.
Several miles down the road, I began to think that half the world was washed away from some storm for there was not a lot of traffic on it 10 in the morning. ONLY 1 SPEEDER, all the way from Exit 34, 80, to 280 Exit 8. It was not much different coming back. It also seemed that drivers were more courteous. I gave thanks and had a slim idea that this was for real.
Did the same trip this morning, weekday, 9AM. Plus, came back westbound during the beginning of rush hour. Not one speeder today. Again, all drivers seemed to be calm.
I even had a driver flash his lights so that I could pull in front of him to change lanes.
I guess this is a plus created by the price of gas being so high. It did seem that when drivers travel slower they are not as keyed up, even tempers slowing down with the gas pedal.

For 12 years I have been trying to take a picture of Angel's face, without her looking po'd. Even outside with natural light, thinking the flash bothered her. Nope. I also have a lot of pictures of her ears, back of the head, etc. She seems to know EXACTLY when to move her head.

Having an ego problem, I put her in a tree, sure kept her eyes open but she didn't talk to me the rest of the day. That smile on her face is not exactly one of joy.

I saw a commercial about a show where teens have to take care of babies for a couple of days. There is nothing like the hands-on experience of changing diapers to change the illusion of the fun of having a baby.
I truly wish this was a criteria in schools for all teens. Especially that they had to spend just one weekend taking care of babies when they wanted instead to have fun with their friends which would happen in their lives with a baby.
It would be fantastic if the mothers of these babies used were also teens and that they spent the two days with the teen boys and girls to answer questions.
Yes, boys to attend this class also, change diapers, feed and burp the babies ...
When talking doesn't work, experience can be a wonderful teacher.

I wonder if NYC is really concerned if people smoke. If you calculate the cigarette tax, it is financially lucrative for the city. It would make sense to create a smoke screen of showing health concern as the reason to raise tax on the smokes as less people buy them, when in reality, they want to keep receiving the same amount of tax.
Ditto for the financial gain cities make from drivers speeding. Less speeders = less tax received from gas tax plus less money from speeding tickets = less money for the state.
The alternative for cops to make more money for their towns is to allow the driver to keep making infractions, more tickets in one shot.
Good reason to ALWAYS check your rear view mirror.

I believe there is something here that will be
profound for everyone who reads these quotes said by Thomas Edison.
Mom's favorite was and mine is " Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine
percent perspiration. "
One of the many thoughts I marvel at was that it took Thomas Edison
over 1400 attempts the invent the light bulb. Gee, if that was the
case, then ALL OF US could make our dreams come true if we try hard
enough. Dan added to this. An interviewer commented to Edison that he
made 1400 mistakes. "No," he replied, "I just know of 1400 ways it
would not work."
When you want to give up on your dream or helping someone, think about
pastors, priests, monks, etc. who say the same thing every week
thousands of times. They don't give up. It just may take 1001 times
for the person to hear and try what is being said.
Back to Thomas Edison:
Anything that won't sell, I don't want to invent. Its sale is proof of utility, and utility is success.
Be courageous. I have seen many depressions in
business. Always America has emerged from these stronger and more
prosperous. Be brave as your fathers before you. Have faith! Go forward!
Being busy does not always mean real work. The
object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of
these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence,
and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing
Discontent is the first necessity of progress.
Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits.
Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.
Great ideas originate in the muscles.
Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.
His genius he was quite content in one brief sentence to define; Of inspiration one percent, of perspiration, ninety nine.
I am proud of the fact that I never invented weapons to kill.
I find my greatest pleasure, and so my reward, in the work that precedes what the world calls success
I have friends in overalls whose friendship I would not swap for the favor of the kings of the world.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
I know this world is ruled by infinite intelligence.
Everything that surrounds us- everything that exists - proves that
there are infinite laws behind it. There can be no denying this fact.
It is mathematical in its precision.
I never did a day's work in my life. It was all fun.
I never did anything by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident; they came by work.
I start where the last man left off.
If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.
It is astonishing what an effort it seems to be for many people to put their brains definitely and systematically to work.
Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do doesn't mean it's useless.
Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
Maturity is often more absurd than youth and very frequently is most unjust to youth.
Nearly every man who develops an idea works it up to
the point where it looks impossible, and then he gets discouraged.
That's not the place to become discouraged.
Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is
the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living
beings, we are still savages.
One might think that the money value of an invention
constitutes its reward to the man who loves his work. But... I continue
to find my greatest pleasure, and so my reward, in the work that
precedes what the world calls success.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time
Restlessness is discontent and discontent is the
first necessity of progress. Show me a thoroughly satisfied man and I
will show you a failure.
Results! Why, man, I have gotten a lot of results. I know several thousand things that won't work.
The best thinking has been done in solitude. The worst has been done in turmoil.
The body is a community made up of its innumerable cells or inhabitants.
The chief function of the body is to carry the brain around.
The reason a lot of people do not recognize
opportunity is because it usually goes around wearing overalls looking
like hard work.
The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are: Hard work, Stick-to-itiveness, and Common sense.
The value of an idea lies in the using of it.
There is far more opportunity than there is ability.
There is no expedient to which a man will not go to avoid the labor of thinking.
There is no substitute for hard work.
There will one day spring from the brain of science
a machine or force so fearful in its potentialities, so absolutely
terrifying, that even man, the fighter, who will dare torture and death
in order to inflict torture and death, will be appalled, and so abandon
war forever.
There's a way to do it better - find it.
They say President Wilson has blundered. Perhaps he has, but I notice he usually blunders forward.
To have a great idea, have a lot of them.
To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.
To my mind the old masters are not art; their value is in their scarcity.
Waste is worse than loss. The time is coming when
every person who lays claim to ability will keep the question of waste
before him constantly. The scope of thrift is limitless.
We don't know a millionth of one percent about anything.
What a man's mind can create, man's character can control.
What you are will show in what you do.
When I have fully decided that a result is worth getting I go ahead of it and make trial after trial until it comes.
Your worth consists in what you are and not in what you have.

Faith
A story I learned long, long, long ago.
There was a man who prayed to win the lottery faithfully every day . He was positive that he was living a right and proper life, doing for others and himself.
After TEN years of constant prayer, he decided that God doesn't answer every prayer. That it is wrong to believe. That it is wrong to even think that what you wish for, with all your heart, you WILL receive.
He never bothered to "buy a lottery ticket"!

I love refrigerator art. The pictures and mementos of special times and people decorate mine and I smile each day getting the cream for the first cup of coffee of the day. Can't help being happy the rest of the day.
Yesterday worked on refinishing a piece of furniture. It was late and I just had enough time to get to the store for food for Ruby. I really felt scrunchy when I looked at the woman in front of me dressed to the nines. I was amazed at all the junk food she was buying. Nothing that I would consider healthy. Then I looked beyond the carefully applied makeup and her hair. I saw a completely different picture. Outside great - inside not so great.
I giggled when I started putting groceries in my refrigerator. All my mementos on the door do have to be reorganized - what I was wearing also. A bit too much stuff stored on top of it, I do have too much stuff to think about stored on my shoulders. I was happy that the inside of my refrigerator, though it does need
a deep cleaning, did not have any unidentifiable things in it and
nothing outdated. And everything I just bought would be used soon. I
shop with a list so I know exactly what I need and will use.
Many, many years ago, my friend Julian said that how you keep your home is an outward manifestation of what is going on in your mind. It is true. When my mind is scattered and overloaded with stuff - I find the home follows suit. Amazing all these years that if I take care of the house first, make a priority list, everything becomes in balance again.
I could not help thinking about that woman. I bet, like her, the outside of her refrigerator is beautiful and the inside is not.
It is logical to me to treat your refrigerator as an outward manifestation of what is going on in your body. After all, what is in there is what you will be putting in it. It should be filled with healthy food, beautiful, inside and outside and so should you.

The thought about one of the reasons kids resort to using drugs came after watching drug commercials on TV - just too many commercials in one evening. There is a drug for EVERYTHING. According to them, you don't have to work at solving a problem, you don't have to eat/sleep/exercise - just take a pill and the problem is solved. That is, if you don't listen to the side effects of the pills.
So, after a lifetime of taking pills, why should kids when facing emotional or mental problems not resort to taking a drug when they are older. They have no clue on how to handle these problems - just subliminally taught with a lifetime of training that pills and drugs are the answer.

Do you think the drivers who speed or drinking/drive should feel smarter , less crazy, less a daredevil, than the 2 who scaled the building?
Those who don't take care of their health may also be as "crazy" as these 2 men, also taking a chance of killing themselves.
If you had to, taking consideration of your present physical condition, how many floors could YOU scale? I wonder how many floors I could climb just using the staircase!

My focus and voting is based on which candidate I feel would be best for the public not which party he/she is in. I think the name party may be appropriate - a party. Who is going to do the "work" to help us have a better and better life?
Taking in account as I understand their viewpoints and beliefs, I wonder what our lives would be like with McCain and Hillary as pres and vice pres. Or McCain with Obama together in either position.
I could care less what color or sex a person is whether as a friend or as a politician. Knowledge, wisdom, common sense, and how care for themselves and others is most important to me.

Have you ever been in a job where policies were made by someone who never did the job themselves? Their hearts may be in the right place but until you have done the job, you really do not know what is going on.
What are the backgrounds of these crane inspectors? Do they talk to the workers involved in the job to make improvements? I hope that reporters will interview the people who work with the cranes.
The inspector could have been in an office where the most dangerous event could have been leaving a waste basket in a place where someone else could trip over it. Taking a course, even with dedication to understand the job, cannot come close to doing the job for years.
