So happy we are actually having the season of Spring! Was so tired of going from winter to summer to winter to summer.
Praying that we will also have a Fall Season this year!

Holy Cow! Did you see the size of the shoe Mike held up to his nose this morning? What size are they, Mike?
As for cows, I bet after they see that shoe, they are also happy his sneakers are made from synthetic materials!
SPRING GUESTS

I'm so happy when Mike forecasts the first warm day of the spring. I open all doors to let in the new air and let go of the old and winter air! I have had some interesting guests arrive for a short while but most leave before I can find my camera. (Oh, I have never been taught to be afraid of all living things - just to be careful, mostly with the 2-legged. Smiles)
I was so happy to find a mouse in the electronic mouse trap as a parting gift to this new friend.

Couldn't figure out how to make the picture smaller.

Ricky did scare me! I have a Maine Coon Cat - Ruby. He was at the top of my staircase. Of course I didn't put the light on to walk down them. I thought it was Ruby and petted her. I was upset for it appeared that she had gained a lot of weight in a couple of hours - edema came to mind, squeezed the body a couple of times until I saw his face. Said, "Wait, got to get your picture!" Hands shook, took 2 pictures, then opened the door for him to leave. He gave me a look like "Lady, you squeezed the hell out of me, blinded me with the flash and then kick me out! Is that what humans are about?" Dirty look to me and he left.

Again, Yes, I know they can be dangerous. Yes, I also know that every morning I pray that only good will come into my home. And it is so.
Oh, Mike, all the horses I saw on my trip today were wearing coats! Need the warmth for the new grass to grow!
WEATHER AND EMOTIONS

Weather
We know weather affects the body. Before a storm or a change in weather some people feel aches and pains.
How about emotions which are also a part of the body? There is a syndrome named for people who become nasty at the beginning of spring and fall. Don't remember the name of it. I become very energetic when it is windy. Romantic when it rains. Love the sounds of raindrops. Love to walk in the rain in the summer. Uncomfortable and not happy in very humid heat or damp cold - don't ask me to do anything for you at that time for the most part.
I have cat weather forecasters in my home. Mike consistently verifies their predictions. When Ruby and Mimi eat more than usual - it will get colder. When strong winds or violent weather is coming within 2 days - they hiss at each other. Snow - they are very quiet. A day before a rain storm they are always on the wrong side of the door. If in they want out, out they want in.
I wonder if science has ever correlated weather to emotions of humans. In any case, just for kicks and giggles, observe family/friends to be aware of who is affected by the different types of weather to know what to expect, how to respond, or when just to avoid them as much as possible. Or just accept the fact that they act this way and know when the weather changes, so will they. Or you, as a matter of fact. You can find a port before the storm, so to speak.

FOR MIKE WOODS

Hi Mike, Merlin is a wild cat, one day older than dirt. I had put food on oak leaves & fed him at the neighbor's house when they were not home. Read that cat's stay where they eat - guess Merlin didn't read the book. The scars are badges - battles won.
Told him this morning to bulk up for YOU said Sunday is not great. He can't use a phone or computer but I think you will understand his feelings about your forecast.

Mimi was also not happy - she really dislikes the cold and snow was new for her this year! Please look at those faces and change the weather....... We all love you!
SNOW SHOVELS

I have had the same snow shovels about 10 years. It is not like snow is new to this area. At the beginning of the first yearly snow fall , you see so many people on a mad rush on the news to buy snow shovels.
What did they do with the ones from last year?

In the "olden days", my Pop's way of predicting weather a day or even more than a month in advance was to watch the amount of food animals and birds were eating. Less food = warmer weather, more food = colder. Seeing a ring around the moon, plus all birds on feeders = a snow storm. In summer - heavy rain.
Today I found that the wild birds have already emptied the feeders in 5 days. They usually last for about 10 days. The cats and Angel are also eating more than usual. Merlin, (wild cat - so named because he appears and disappears) has been around more this last week than usual requesting food.
They are bulking up for a reason.
I had the bright idea a few years ago that if I put out more feeders that I would not have to fill them so often. Wrong - ended up with more birds and filling twice the amount of feeders.
Can't tell if Mike is also bulking up this last week. Just looks fantastic all year round.

As a child, I remembered spring and fall. In the past 15 or more years I felt that we went from winter to summer and then summer to winter.
I complained to the Universe that I wanted spring and fall to return. The time when you don't need air conditioning or heavy coats. And in the fall, I mentioned to the Universe that it would be nice to enjoy the fall colors for more than one week..
Winter starts on Dec.21st, I think. Why should we want winter now? Why the rush?
MIKE WOODS QUESTIONS

A child asked me 3 questions yesterday:
1. Weather reports "dew point" even in the winter. What is it? Well, I know about dew claws, dew-dew, dew, dew drops - not dew point.
2. How much does air weigh? Only answer I could think of is that it would depend on how much moisture there is in it.
3. Do clouds make a sound? (I hope she doesn't think that adults keep their heads in the clouds.)
Egad, she isn't even a 5th grader!
STORM WINDOWS IN THE SUMMER

I prefer not to over-support the electric company. While cleaning the windows, thought about storm windows keeping the cold out and why shouldn't they keep the heat out as well. They do. During the day, they and the inside windows are closed.
Found it amazing that lace curtains also do the job of blocking heat. Now have the storm windows, regular windows, and lace curtains (have to see sunlight).
Thought about window fans and how the directions say to put them at the bottom of the window. Why? The heat is at the ceiling. So, I put the fan at the top of the window. Bought the ones with temp gauge on them and exhaust/intake. Just takes a few seconds to change them in the AM and at night.
Now, since bringing in the night air can be damp, purchased a dehumidifier. Feel that can be used for 3 seasons of the year. Goes on for only 2 hrs in the morning. House is cool and dry, so far. Haven't turned on the air conditioner - and don't even feel sorry tor the electric company.

Last week Angel and Ruby became antsy as the electrical storm was approaching my home. I listened to them. Turned off all electricity, didn't run water, unplugged the TV and computer.
They were right. I know animals can sense things humans cannot.
Ball lightening came down all around the house and nothing was damaged even though one strike hit so close it shook the house.
Should I also unplug the cable line to the modem?
