Normally when a team is one game under .500 midway through April I say "plenty of season left to play"  With these Mets I say you should panic at least a little.  The Mets are playing a lot like they did at the end of last year---dead!  They get a lead and they can't hold it.  Their body language looks bad, and there is no sense of urgency.  Plus, their bullpen looks bad.

The other things you have to be worried about are the injuries.  Pedro is out until sometime in June and what will he be like when he gets back?  Duque who knows if he will ever play again?  Who is Mike Pelfrey?  A number 5, a number 4 or a kid that needs more time in minors.  Oliver Perez has awesome stuff than he just loses concentration. Luis Castio looks old and hurt

In general, I understand your concerns as we embark on week three and game 12 of the 162 game marathon known as the Major League Baseball Season. This team, thus far has resembled the 2007 team that closed the season 5-12, while blowing a seven game lead with seventeen to play.
The Mets are not having any more problems with their bullpen than most teams, including divison rivals Philadelphia and Atlanta. Their bullpen has been inconsistent, not necessarily bad.
How do you measure "body language?" How do you measure "sense of urgency?" I hear this from not only you, but others in the media. How do you want them to act. Want them to act maniacal like Paul O'Neil and take their frustration out on the nearest water cooler or trash a bathroom. Please expound! Do you notice anyhting in the clubhouse that might explain your comments.
I realize when you parlay the last few weeks of 2007 with the first two weeks of 2008, you may have reason for concern. But it is just two weeks.
I would agree with you on the injury point. There is age on this baseball team and with age comes increase frequency of injuries and longer recovery time. Omat Minaya and Willie Randolph seem to favor the older, veteran player. With this comes injuries.
As they say, that is why they play the games. The ebb and flow of the season will determine how the New York Mets stack up against their National League foes. Give it some time.
