Hello, it has a been a while since I've blogged.  Well I'm back to tell you about a great opportunity I had.  I was able to go behind the scenes of Celia: The Life & Music of Celia Cruz.  It's the story about the great Celia Cruz, told through the eyes of her husband Pedro Knight.

This was such a great experience for me because I grew up listening to her music.  Whenever I hear her music, I have to dance.    For those of you who are not familar with it then you should check it out.  This story is also a love story about a great man and the love and admiration he had for his wife.  If I didn't know better I would of thought that  was Celia Cruz herself on that stage!

Watch the video below for  more on Celia: The Life & Music of Celia Cruz

Wow! That looks like a great show. I am moving it to the top of my "must see" list. Thanks for the clip, I didn't see the story on TV.

Great report Ines!!!

To be honest, I had heard of Celia Cruz but I didn't know how huge a star she was until the time of her death. It was a BIG story at the time. Looks like a very good show.

I said that you should be doing features and other things in addition to being THE New York Traffic Authority. I hope FOX lets you do much more. I saw you handling the wild animals last week, it was funny. You looked fine with the macaw and the monkey but a little nervous with the snake. Your turn as a fashion model a couple of weeks ago was fantastic. Believe it or not, it is on youtube (anyone interested can search gdny fashion show).

Keep up the great work.

Great report Ines!!
My first job in radio was working with a man called Dick Ricardo Sugar. That's right , that was his name He wasn't a Latino, he was a little jewish man who loved latin music. His shows were done in english and he had a large following of fans. Besides playing Titop Puente, Tito Rodregues, Machito, Charley Palmeri and Cela Cruz, he's also try to explain the music. Part of my job was to accompany him to his live shows, it was there that I experienced all of the great latino performers and met them in person! She ALWAYS shined. As a jazz and rock drummer, I would have never known about the great lating rythyms that I soon incorporated into my bag of tricks! i LOVE IT! People like you ,, have to keep their memories alive!!!
GREAT JOB!!

Hey Ines,

I e-mailed your story to four people I thought would appreciate it and three have replied thanking me and commenting that your report was really good. I learned so much from your report but they were very aware of Celia and her music which proves how good a job you did. One of them has already seen the show, one said she sees the commercial for the show all the time on the Spanish-language TV channels and has been meaning to see the show but hasn't gotten around to it yet and one said she would love to see it but lives way out in Suffolk County and she doesn't get into the city that often.

Also, why didn't you get out there and work out with Mario Lopez? I'm sure he would have loved to have you out there. My daughters would go crazy if they had the chance to meet him. He seems like a really nice guy and I have to say the two of you would make an adorable couple. How about Jodi's push-ups?, very impressive!

Take care and enjoy the nice weather!

Thanks Guys! IR_Fan you called it, you said I should do features and look what happens. Wouldn't you be nervous with the snake?! You're a guy, probably not. I wasn't hesitant to do it at first, but I just sucked it up and did it. He was actually very soft. The monkey actually left me a gift on my shirt. It was white, not sure what it was and I wasn't going to investigate. That fashion show was fun.

Bigbadbob, sounds like you had a cool job with Dick Ricardo Sugar. And you are very, very fortunate to have been able to have listed to those great artist first hand. They are very important, just like our own Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, etc.

Thanks for sharing the story IR_Fan! Tell your friends to make an effort and get tickets, the show is closing and going on tour! Now or never. Though I must also give credit to the producer, Veronica, and Adam the camera man. They were such an important part of it!!!

Mario is a cutie! The workouts looked easy to do and effective. I want to get the book. My doctor keeps telling me how important it is for me to excerise, but I get bored so easily. Jodi's push-ups were crazy!! Perfect!!

Wanna know the really cool thing that came out of it?? After leaving radio and going back into drumming I got to work opposite Mongo Santamaria (Watermelon Man)with my R&B group The Jewels, and a lot of the musicians I met from my Sugar experience cmae in to see Mongo and remembered me. Before long we were ALL jamming together. That friendship lasted for years. We traded off, they helped us do latin music, we helped them do blues and rock music. It was great. Now I think you should explore further and see how they all influenced Santana. He's carrying on the tradtion, by keeping latin music alive with the younger set. Sinatra, Cruz, Puente, The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Kell Clarkson, Bono....It's ALL OUR MUSIC....They're ALL GREAT.

I never saw the thing you did with the snake and monkey, but some dork put a snake on me during a concert and I freaked!!! Why do they always have to pick on the drummer??
There was a Chimp named Mr. Jiggs, who I worked with and they made me do a battle of the drums with him! Can you immagine that, competing with a CHIMP?? It was fun until he started throwing the sticks and drumstands at me...The audience loved it...they thought it was funny...but I was drumming for my life! This chimp literally WENT APE!!!I guess he thought that I was Charlton Heston or something! VEWY SCAWY!
I think it's why I went into comedy, they just throw fuit and tomatoes!

I think that obnoxious loud mouth "BILLY MAY" might have something to get that monkey gift out of your shirt!! You know, Oxi-clean or something...Just a thought!

Ines,

I saw the show twice. Once with my boyfriend and the other time, I take my mother to see it. She is a huge fan of Celia. I loved it both times. I recommended it to other friends, who infact went to see it and loved it. I would see it again. It such an up lifting story of true love. I would recommend this show to everyone, you leave there feeling so inspired by the person Celia was and how much her husband truly loved her.

GO SEE IT, you won't regret it.
