What a chilly weekend we had!! Easter was colder and had more snow than Christmas!! The storm that brought us the wind driven rain on Wednesday intensified as it headed into southeastern Canada last week. It then proceeded to run out of steam and made its home just north of Maine for the better part of a week. Unfortunately for spring-lovers, we were on the cold side of this storm and a persistent northwesterly wind has been bringing us cold air and even a few snow showers.

Well, that storm is finally lifting northward which will allow us to ease out of the cold pattern and move into a more typical early spring pattern. This changing of the guard will bring us another variable week in the weather department. This time, however, we'll start the week off on the chilly side and end it on the milder side. The following is a detailed breakdown of the weather for the week ahead.

Monday:   The cold northwesterly wind that has kept high temperatures in the low to mid 40's over the past four days is still hanging tough this morning. We're starting off with temperatures in the low to mid 30's and wind chills in the 20's. Fortunately, the wind has eased just a bit as the storm in southeastern Canada is slowly drifting north. This will allow our temperatures to rise an extra five degrees or so this afternoon with quite a bit more sunshine. It will still be a bit breezy, however, with wind gusts exceeding 20 MPH. A mix of sun and clouds with a high in the upper 40's will actually feel mild after a five day stretch that did not  see temperatures exceed 44 degrees.

Tuesday:   The northwesterly wind will be much less of an issue tomorrow as wind gusts will only be in the 10-15 MPH range. We'll start the day off in the mid 30's and temperatures will finally top the 50 degree mark again. High temperatures will reach the low to mid 50's with plenty of sunshine.

Wednesday:   The good news for Wednesday is that the cold northwesterly wind will finally end. The bad news is that an easterly wind off the 42 degree ocean will replace it and keep things cool. High temperatures will be in the upper 40's to low 50's. The news will also be mixed in the sky department on Wednesday. We'll start off with sunny skies, but clouds will gradually increase during the afternoon. Rain will then develop during the evening and continue into the overnight. North and west of the city, we'll be taliking an icy mix once again keeping the winter theme alive.

Thursday:  Thursday will be the washout of the week as the clouds hang tough and the rain continues. North and west of town will be rather wintry as an icy mix could continue right into Thursday afternoon depending on the storm's track. Near the coast it will be a cold rain as high temperatures struggle to reach the upper 40's. It's a long shot at this point, but we'll see if the storm exits quickly enough to allow some peeks of sun late Thursday.

Friday:   We'll end the week with a nice Friday. Residual clouds could linger into Friday morning, but the sun will break out by afternoon and temperatures will respond. With a light wind, we'll see afternoon high temperatures in the mid to perhaps upper 50's.

Good Morning handsome surfer guy! Yes i'm here bright and early reading this week forecast and John I see it's not even gonna reach near 60 at all!

How was your Easter? It was too chilli for me, didn't wear the mini skirt, No way!!lol

You are up early again young lady!! Always good to get the positive vibes from you first thing in the morning!!

Friday would be about our only chance to make a run for 60 degrees. It's possible if Thursday's storm exits quickly and doesn't intensify too much.

And Easter was fun. Relaxing for sure! A bit chilly for me too, but I like that on nights when I have to try to get to sleep early. It's a bit easier to go to bed early when you don't feel like you're missing a gorgeous evening outside.

Yesterday turned out as advertised. It was breezy and chilly, but mostly sunny skies helped temperatures out a bit as we hit 49 degrees for a high.

Today will be slightly better as the sun will stick around while the breeze cuts down. temperatures will also exceed 50 degrees for the first time in a week.

Tuesday was another beauty!! A bit cool obviously but the sun more than made up for it.

And if you can, enjoy the first half of today as the clouds will start rolling in during the early to mid afternoon.

Tomorrow morning's commute will be an absolute MESS!! Wind-driven rain will fall quite heavily at times resulting in flooding in poor-drainage areas. If you live in or drive through an area that floods during heavy rain, take precautions or drive an alternate route tomorrow morning. The heavy, steady rain will last through noon or shortly after, but clouds, drizzle, and scattered showers will hang tough into the evening.

The rain is here big time!! The heaviest is falling during this morning's commute just as expected. The heavy rain will exit the area around noon, but the clouds and drizzle along with periods of light rain will hang around into the afternoon. A coastal storm is just forming over Virginia this morning and won't be over our area until the later afternoon. So expect wet conditions through the early evening.

Tomorrow and Saturday will be better with a mix of sun and clouds. But, be sure to enjoy any sun you get over that period as a prolonged period of cloudy skies and rain will affect the area Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Thanks Carmen!! Heavy rain should pull out around noon or so. Possibly earlier depending on where in Jersey you are. As long as you and the kids can handle clouds and a bit of drizzle, you should be able to get out this afternoon. A few peeks of sun are even possible this afternoon.

except for the lovely stiff neck that I woke up with...and the "accident" I had this AM...I went to open up my freezer and the sugar cannister that sits on top of my fridge fell..there was sugar all over my kitchen..it was indeed a "sweet" mess. I've vacuumed like three times already, and I can still feel the sugar when I walk in my kitchen..

OK, here it is!! Two whole days without any significant rain (SLIGHT risk of a passing shower today, especially north and west of town). Enjoy today and tomorrow as the clouds will return late Saturday and hang tough through Wednesday or so.

Sunday and Monday will be the worst days as a very strong northeasterly wind will cause the heavy rain to fall sideways at times. Tuesday will be no picnic either, as the cold northeasterly wind continues along with areas of light rain and drizzle. if things go our way, the clouds and drizzle Wednesday morning will break for some peeks of sun Wednesday afternoon.

Carmen- Hope you had fun with your cousins!!

LFF- Sorry to hear about the sugar mess! At least it didn't cost you any time ouside in the sun. It could've been worse and happened on a sunny day.

SDS- If you want to see angry, wait until Sunday and Monday. The atmosphere is angry because at this time of year, winter is trying to hang on in the upper levels of the atmosphere where it is still quite cold. At the surface, a stronger sun is trying to bring summer back and it is relatively warm. Cold air over a warm surface is quite unstable and the warm air near the surface is free to rise and cause storms.

I hope nobody got flooded out too bad in this storm. I was greatly impressed with the size of the breakers hitting the Jersey shoreline this morning as shown on GDNY. I love seeing waves like that! Now, where did I store away my old hydrohull? What's the average water temp, now, John? I'm guessing that it's still in the 50s. Have you been out without your wet suit yet?
