Hopefully everyone got out and enjoyed the absolutely stunning weather this weekend. We were blessed with sunny skies and high temperatures in the 70's Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The great weather has carried over into the work week and today will be our warmest day of the season so far. Tomorrow will make it 5 straight days of mostly sunny skies after the post easter nor'easter gave us five straight days of clouds and rain.

Another streak of inclement weather will replace the streak of nice weather we've been experiencing by mid-week. A frontal system will move into the area on Wednesday and stall just to our south. On the north side of the front, we'll see a return to the damp northeasterly breeze which will bring plenty of clouds and areas of rain. So enjoy Monday and Tuesday as the rest of the week will be mostly cloudy. The following is a detailed breakdown of the five days ahead.

Monday:  Monday will be mostly sunny, breezy, and warm. High pressure has slipped just to our south giving us a warm southwesterly wind. The wind will get quite gusty this afternoon as temperatures rise into the lower 80's across the region. Central Park has not officially hit 80 degrees since September 19, 2006. So, as long as temperatures rise according to plan, today will be the first day in 7 months that NYC has hit 80 degrees. South-facing shores on Long Island and Connecticut will be a bit cooler today as highs will be limited to the upper 60's to low 70's. A weak cold front will move into the region tonight spreading clouds and a few sprinkles across the region.

Tuesday:  Any clouds or sprinkles Monday night will exit by daybreak on Tuesday setting us up for another gorgeous day. We'll be slightly cooler behind the front on Tuesday, but temperatures will still rise into the mid 70's during the afternoon. Even the coastline will warm up on Tuesday as a northwesterly wind won't allow a seabreeze to develop.

Wednesday:   There may be some sun early on Wednesday. Clouds will be on the increase, however, and rain will develop during the afternoon. Temperatures Wednesday afternoon will take close to a 30 degree drop from Monday's high due to the clouds and a northeasterly wind. The rain may be briefly heavy late on Wednesday, but only a light to moderate amount of rain is expected from this system.

Thursday:   The cloudy, dreary weather will continue into Thursday as a frontal system remains stalled to our south. The northeasterly wind on the north side of the front will bring lots of clouds and areas of fog and drizzle to the region. The rain will be periodic in nature as weak areas of low pressure ride along the front. Some sun could break out Thursday afternoon if there is a long enough break between disturbances. Temperatures will top out in the upper 50's.

Friday:  More northeasterly wind for Friday will bring more clouds and areas of fog and drizzle. Periodic light rain will continue as weak disturbances glide by along the stationary front to our south. Again, if there is enough room between low pressures, some sun could peek through the clouds Friday afternoon. The cool temperatures will continue as temperatures are held in the upper 50's.

I agree, I don't like it warm at night. It's tough for me to sleep when it's muggy. Thankfully a nice breeze knocked temperatures on Long Island back into the lower 60's by late afternoon.

Today is starting off warmer than yesterday, but a weak cold front moved through the region early this morning and highs will be a bit cooler than yesterday's highs. We'll still approach 80, but temperatures will gradually fall this afternoon setting us up for a cooler evening/night.

And luck is on our side as far as this week's weather is concerned. First off, the rain forecast for Wednesday will be slow to arrive. This will allow a longer period of sun for Wednesday morning and early afternoon. The weak system bringing the rain will also move further south than forecast. So, clouds won't thicken up quite as much and most of the showers will fall south of the city.

Then, the break between systems I discussed for Thursday will be quite substantial. So substantial that we may remain dry all of Thursday and see a mix of sun and clouds.

We'll run out of luck as forecast on Friday. A larger system will bring clouds and rain making Friday the washout of the week.

John,
Old friend! Came across your name at work yesterday! (work in the surf industry) and had to look you up and make sure you were still holding the weather and the surf down in NY. Glad to see you're well! Now if you could only send us some rain down here...

Man, I feel sooo bad and I'm sure I'm gonna kick myself when you reveal your identity, but I'm not sure who you are Vicki V. Do I know you from Florida or Hawaii? But yeah, still working in weather and surfing whenever possible. Actually, I can barely move from the unbelieveable swell we had all last week and weekend from the nor'easter.

As far as Bike Mike, I guess he's training a ton with the nice weather. He still posts once in a while.

Well, the forecast is coming together fairly clearly now. The clouds will gradually increase this afternoon as the weak disturbance slides just to our south along a stalled frontal boundary. A few showers will then fall across the area this evening through about midnight or so. The skies will then partially clear as we head toward daybreak.

Tomorrow, we'll see the break between systems. The systems will be close enough to keep some cloud cover in the area. However, a weak high pressure will build in from the north allowing some sun as well, especially north of the city. The clouds will then increase once again late tomorrow afternoon and rain will return tomorrow night.

Friday's rain will be a bit heavier and steadier as the main area of low pressure heads our way. We'll have periods of rain for most of the day which may be briefly heavy.

The rain will then exit the area on cue Saturday morning allowing a nice Saturday afternoon.

And Lisa, just make the ceremony during the afternoon. By that time, any AM showers will be out of the picture.

This weather is something else. Rain coming frequently and we just never really know how many inches to expect! I felt so bad for the people who got it really bad...Unbelievable!

Today's looking to be close to a repeat of yesterday. Not quite as mild and a few more clouds, but the general theme will be the same. Nice early, clouds increase during the afternoon, then rain tonight. Get out there today if you can, tomorrow will be cloudy and wet.

But don't worry too much about flooding with this storm. looking like 0.5" to 1.0" of rain with this system.

Heavy thunderstorms moved across the area early this morning dumping over an inch of rain in a short period of time. So, we obviously exceeded forecast rain amounts in just one storm.

We're now stuck in an very unstable atmosphere as a warm front to our south is crawling northward. As a result, heavy showers are "training", or moving over the same areas over and over again. Expect on and off showers to continue to be locally heavy through the morning. During the afternoon, the warm front will struggle north of the area and bring the heavy showers with it. We'll then be left with cloudy skies and occasional light showers.
