The cool shot of air that arrived Saturday night is right over us this morning as we're waking up to some chilly temperatures. Most suburbs dropped into the 30's overnight and there is even some patchy frost north and west of the city. The cool air mass will quickly moderate today, however, as the strong May sun goes to work. High pressure is still in complete control of our weather and will give us another beautiful week of spring weather.

The one difference this week will be the location of the high pressure. Last week and over the weekend, the high pressure was anchored to our north giving us a cool, dry northerly wind. The cool, dry air allowed clear, crisp nights followed by sunny, mild days. Later today and tomorrow, the high pressure will finally slip to our south giving us a warmer, more humid southerly wind. The result for the rest of the week will be will still be the same in the sky department as plenty of sun will continue. Temperatures, however, will slowly rise along with humidity, giving us warmer days and mild nights.

Monday:  After a chilly start, we'll see a comfortably mild afternoon as the bright May sunshine goes to work. Temperatures will top out in the mid to upper 60's across the area with the warmest locations topping out in the low 70's. If you favor the cool nights, make sure you enjoy tonight. We'll see one more chilly night as the clear skies and light wind allow radiational cooling.

Tuesday:  Tuesday morning will be another chilly one, but it will be about five degrees warmer than Monday morning. Most suburbs will start out in the upper 30's before sunny skies once again go to work. With the warmer southwesterly wind in play, temperatures will steadily climb into the afternoon. High temperatures will reach the mid 70's across much of the area.  Watch for a seabreeze to keep temperatures in the 60's along the coast.

Wednesday:  We'll tack on another 5-10 degrees for Wednesday morning's temperatures across the area as the southerly wind will keep temperatures up a bit Tuesday night. Temperatures will start out in the 40's and low 50's which will be a good launching pad for a warm day. Under plenty of sun, much of the area could approach or hit 80 degrees as the warm, southwesterly wind continues.  Inland areas could hit the low 80's while coastal areas struggle to reach 70. Humidity levels will also creep up a bit on Wednesday making it feel even warmer.

Thursday:   Thursday will be a warm day from start to finish. Because of the higher humidity and southwesterly wind, temperatures Wednesday night will not fall below 60 degrees in the city. With a warm start and hazy sun, temperatures will rise quickly into the 70's by early afternoon. Inland areas will continue to rise into the low 80's. Moderate humidity levels will combine with the warmth making it feel more like early summer.  A seabreeze will limit temperatures near the coast, however, keeping highs in the 70's.

Friday:  Friday will be a repeat performance of Thursday. It will be warm and humid with a mix of hazy sun and clouds. High temperatures will range from the lower 80's inland to the upper 60's along the coast. A weak cold front will approach the area late Friday. This cold front could touch off a few showers or thunderstorms late in the afternoon or evening so keep your eye on the forecast.

C'mon, people, he said maybe there will be thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. It's not a sure thing this far out! I'm going out on a limb by predicting only a slight drizzle in the afternoon, but, I'm no meteorologist! Either way, this sounds like great week! If my knee starts to hurt at lunchtime on Friday, I will post a retraction! ha!

Hey John . . . . returning a comment your way.

Guess what? I might be getting some weather equipment from a friend tuesday night. He is a meteorologist. He is the one I report my weather to. Mont Holly, NJ and Upton, NY. He takes my report seriously.

I send him my report by cell text to email.

The weather will feel great this week.

Tuesday (May 8th) will be the day I get my good bike tunes up for the BIG bike tour. This bike shop is on Route 46 east.

You have a great day John.

Tarquin- I'll let you know when I'm headin to the Rockaways. They run a contest there each spring/early summer so I usually go and check it out.

Carmen- Good to hear from you as always. Did you get one of those tempurpedic mattresses? My tempurpedic pillow is one of my prized possessions! Sooo comfortable!!

LFF & Sanctus- Don't worry too much about the storms. They will be scattered and late in the afternoon or evening on Friday. Most of the day will be nice.

Bike Mike- or the King Of Belleville, which do you prefer?? I take your reports seriously too. I know you're on the case. good luck training.

The only detail I need to add to the forecast is the patchy fog that will be forming each night starting tonight. Humidity levels will rise the next several days allowing us to cool to the dewpoint at night. Translation-patchy fog will form with the increased moisture in the air. The fog could get quite dense for Thursday and Friday morning.

You'll really feel the humidity come up Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be humid from start to finish making it feel more like summer across most of the area.

And tarquin, the waves will be pretty big this week with that storm just off the Carolinas. If you can go down today, I'm sure the local surfers will be all over it. Maybe that'll give you some good photo opportunities. Buoy is showing 5-6 foot swell this morning.

Rockaway, NJ you talking about. I am cycling that way later this month. From where I live.

You can see my famous tree in Denville, NJ.

ENJOY the week!!

I am keeping an eye on that storm that looks like a hurricane near Florida. Because as the HIGH moves out of the way. A chance it will have a mind of it own . . . like a tropical systm.
