The Orange Co. School District is discussing a controversial proposal to help balance the budget. It's one of many ideas being discussed, and it's not concrete. The proposal is to slash spending on sports programs to save 7.3 million dollars.
It could wipe out funding for sports in middle and elementary schools, while doing away with funds for coaches and equipment for high school sports programs.
The district has cut 70 million dollars from this year's budget and has to cut 23 million more this year. It may have to cut up to 100 million more dollars next year. So it's looking at this as a possible way to save seven million.

Another President Bush? Perhaps so, says former President George H.W. Bush, who has already seen one son, George W., serve in the Oval Office. The nation's 41st president told Fox News Sunday that he would like to see a second son, Jeb, be president one day.
Mr. Bush said, "I'd like to see him run. I'd like to see him be president someday."

Bruce Waters is over it. Two times in two years vandals have destroyed the Christmas decorations that Waters and his wife put in their front yard to put people in the holiday spirit.

A U.S. military security camera in Afghanistan has captured a deadly attack on a group of schoolchildren. U.S. officials say 14 young Afghans were killed by a suicide bomber. The video shows the children walking, single file, past a check point as the vehicle veers toward them and explodes.
It's more evidence that the threat is still alive in Afghanistan, as America prepares to nearly double our troop presence in that country to almost 60 thousand troops.
What should we do about the threat from terrorist groups and Islamic extremists in Afghanistan? Is the war there something we need to continue for several more years? Blog your thoughts here.

I drove from Naples to Lake Mary this morning, with a side stop in Clermont. It took almost five hours from door to door. Part of the problem was people crawling along in the passing lane. You know the passing lane, that one for people most likely going above the speed limit.
When people are parked in that lane, people zoom past them on the right side and create more risk of accidents in the other lanes. I think folks really need to move out of the passing lane and let the lead foots move on through! Blog your thoughts on our neighbors' driving habits on our highways. Blog it all here.

I was spoiled rotten for the holidays. I usually work on Christmas, but this year Christmas Eve and Christmas just happened to fall on my days off. That was a lucky break. I spent time with my family, went to the beach twice, got some sleep, ate too much, and then almost fell over dead when I went jogging. I'm back at work on Friday, but it was a perfect Christmas.
I hope your holidays were great too. Blog your thoughts on the holidays for 2008!

I went to church today, as I try to prepare myself for Christmas. Our pastor's sermon talked about making time for Jesus this Christmas season. He reminded us that it's easy to get distracted by the shopping, gift wrapping, travel, entertaining and all the rest.
I hope you will take time this holiday season to explore your spiritual side so that you will find peace among the hectic holidays. Blog your thoughts here.

An 18-year-old central Florida man is in jail after his mother called the sheriff's office and accused him of stealing his sister's Christmas gifts.
Joseph Franklin Kendall's mom called authorities to report that gifts for her son and daughter had gone missing, including a laptop computer and DVD player.
A deputy later found the gifts at Kendall's new home, as well as prescription drugs. Kendall told a deputy he had taken the presents but hadn't meant to take his sister's gifts.

The Arena Football League and the Orlando Predators sacked their 2009 season before they even took the field. Team owners for the sixteen team league decided Sunday night to postpone the season. They say expenses have risen faster than revenues for the last seven years. They want to take the next year to put their economic model back in line.
What do you make of the Predators playing no games for 2009? Did the owners make the right call? Have you been to Predators games? Blog it all here.
