We got a break from the deep freeze Thursday as high temperatures climbed into the mid 30s. This trend will continue into Friday with a developing southwesterly airflow. There will be a few clouds in the area overnight as the low temperature heads down to 29 degrees in Midtown and 18-28 degrees across the colder suburbs.

For the first time in a long time, we will break the 40 degree mark on Friday along with sunshine and some clouds and a continued southwesterly airflow.  High temperatures should reach into the mid 40s. A cold front will cross the area Friday night bringing clouds and the risk of some sprinkles or flurries. The cold air will not rush in here immediately so look for a low temperature of 33 degrees for Midtown and 25-30 degrees across the suburbs.

Eventually the colder air will take hold.  Look for it to become breezy on Saturday with a good amount of sunshine. High temperatures will be in the mid 30s.

Sunday and Monday will see lots of sun each day but high temperatures will only be in the mid and upper 20s.

Cold weather remains in place for Tuesday as a storm system looks to pass to our south. Look for sun and some clouds with high temperatures in the low 30s.

Sun and some clouds will be around for Wednesday with high temperatures rising into the mid 30s.

A weak disturbance will cross the area on Thursday leading to clouds and some sun along with the threat of some snow showers. High temperatures will remain in the mid 30s.

Aside from some patchy clouds in the sky overnight, we'll have a calm forecast although it will be another cold night ahead. The low temperature will be 20 degrees in Midtown and 10-18 across the colder suburbs.

Sun will give into some clouds on Thursday along with a bit of a warming trend developing as the wind becomes more westerly in nature. High temperatures will rise into the mid and upper 30s. Some clouds will be around from time to time for Thursday night as the low temperature heads back down to 30 degrees in Midtown and 23-28 degrees across the colder suburbs.

But don't get used to that as another shot of cold, arctic air is aiming for us over the weekend.  It may bring a shower to the area as it passes through late Friday night otherwise it will become breezy on Saturday with a good amount of sunshine. High temperatures will be in the low and mid 30s.

Sunday and Monday will see high temperatures only in the mid and upper 20s with lots of sun for Sunday and sun and clouds for Monday along with the threat of some snow showers.

An intensifying storm well offshore will keep a northwest flow in our area overnight and with a clear sky returning it will turn out to be very cold overnight as well. The low temperature will drop to 17 degrees in Midtown and 5-15 degrees across the colder suburbs.

Sunshine will lead to some clouds by Wednesday afternoon but it will remain quite cold with the northwest flow still in place. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s. Some clouds will be around Wednesday night as the low temperature heads down to 22 degrees in Midtown and 15-20 degrees across the suburbs.

Lots of sunshine can be expected on Thursday as well but with a bit of a warming trend developing as the wind becomes more west to southwest. High temperatures will rise into the mid and upper 30s.

The band of light snow in the area this evening will be coming to an end pretty quickly leaving behind 1 to 2 inches of snow. The sky will begin clear out after midnight as this weak storm system moves off the New England coast. The low temperature will be 23 degrees for Midtown and 15-20 degrees across the colder suburbs.

The cold air will be reinforced on Tuesday. Another storm will get organized along the North Carolina coast but track out to sea well to our south and east. A gusty breeze will develop here during the day with a combination of sun and clouds.

High temperatures will struggle to reach 30 degrees. This storm may brush the eastern end of Long Island with a little snow Tuesday night otherwise it will be a breezy and cold night for the tri-state area with some clouds from time to time. The low temperature will drop to 18 degrees in Midtown and 10-15 degrees across the colder suburbs.

The arctic plunge still has another day or so to spend with us.  A clear sky is expected Friday night, which will allow the temperature to drop to 9 degrees in Midtown and -5 to 5 degrees across the colder suburbs.  The wind will not be that strong but a 5 to 7 mph wind will still create a wind chill as low as -10 in some areas overnight.

It will remain very cold on Saturday.  We'll have sun giving way to clouds in the afternoon as high temperatures struggle to get to 20 degrees.  Clouds will thicken early Saturday night with the threat of some light snow that will develop after midnight from a weak disturbance headed at us from the west.  Temperatures will not drop all that much with the cloud cover and a south wind so look for a low temperature of 19 degrees in Midtown and 10-17 degrees across the suburbs.

This disturbance will cross the area on Sunday keeping the threat of light snow around. There is a potential for a few inches of snow so check in for future forecasts.  It won't be quite as cold but high temperatures look to climb into the low and mid 30s.

This system will have to be watched for potential coastal development but for now it appears that we'll have some snow showers Monday morning clouds with breaks of some sun at times returning for the afternoon.   High temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s.

The cold air will get reinforced by Tuesday but with lots of sun.  High temperatures will have a tough time reaching 30 degrees.

A good amount of sun should return for Wednesday with high temperatures remaining in the upper 20s.

By Thursday, high temperatures should rise into the mid 30s with sun and some clouds as well.

Friday will be the warmest in the next 7 days as highs temperatures reach into the upper 30s with sun and clouds.

The frigid air we've been advertising is now upon us and we'll have some of the coldest air in over 4 years affect the area into Saturday.  The sky will become clear overnight allowing the temperature to plunge to a low of 7 degrees in Midtown and -3 to 5 degrees across the colder suburbs.  Wind chill values will be between -5 and -15 degrees by daybreak.

Friday will be a sunny day but despite alll that sunshine, high temperatures will only make it to the mid teens and with a bit of a breeze out of the west, wind chill values will be close to zero much of the time.  Clear and frigid conditions will persist through Friday night.  The low temperature will once again be around 7 degrees for Midtown and -3 to 5 degrees across the colder suburbs with wind chill values between zero and -10.

The wind will be less of a factor on Saturday but it will still remain very cold.  We'll have sun giving way to some clouds as high temperatures struggle to get to 20 degrees.  Clouds will thicken early Saturday night with the threat of some snow developing late at night from a weak disturbance headed at us from the west.

This disturbance will cross the area on Sunday keeping the threat of snow around through midday with snow showers. This disturbance is similar to today's as there won't be a lot of moisture with it but a light accumulation of snow is possible.  It won't be quite as cold but high temperatures look to be just above 30 degrees.

After some snow showers Monday morning clouds with breaks of some sun at times.   High temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s.

The first blast of arctic air has invaded the tri-state area with the second blast arriving late Thursday.  In between, a clipper storm system will be racing at us from the Ohio Valley overnight. Clouds will thicken later tonight and snow is likely to develop prior to daybreak Thursday. The low temperature will be 19 degrees for Midtown and 10-17 degrees across the colder suburbs.

It will remain very cold on Thursday with clouds and snow in the area through early afternoon. Since the air is so cold, this will be a fluffy snowfall with much of the area picking up between 2 and 4 inches of snow. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Thursday due to the expected light snowfall. The breeze will once again get gusty in the afternoon as high temperatures struggle to reach the mid 20s. Bitter cold air arrives in the wake of this storm Thursday night with a clearing sky and a gusty northwest wind. The low temperature will be 7 degrees for Midtown with near zero degree temperatures across the coldest suburbs. Wind chill values will drop to between zero and -10 by early Friday morning.

The coldest air to hit the tri-state area in the last four years will be here on Friday. Despite a sunny sky, high temperatures will only make it to the mid teens and with a gusty northwest breeze, wind chill values will stay in the single digits to near zero much of the time.

Tuesday was the warmest day of the week thanks to a south - southwesterly airflow. The first of two arctic fronts will cross the area overnight plunging us into the deep freeze for an extended period of time. There may be some rain or snow showers that will accompany the front later tonight then the wind will also get quite gusty. The low temperature will drop to 22 degrees in Midtown and 15-20 degrees across the colder suburbs.

It will be breezy and quite cold on Wednesday as sunshine gives way to some clouds by later in the day. High temperatures will only be in the mid 20s with wind chill values in the single digits to around 10 degrees. A clipper system will rapidly approach the area late Wednesday leading to clouds along with some light snow to develop late at night. The low temperature in Midtown will be 17 degrees with 10-15 degrees across the suburbs.

Clouds and some light snow will continue into early Thursday afternoon. There is likely to be a light accumulation in the range of 1 to as much as 3 inches in some spots. We'll update that on tomorrow's forecast. High temperature will be in the low to mid 20s.

In the wake of this storm, the coldest air of the season so far will come rushing in under a gusty northwest wind. Despite lots of sunshine on Friday, high temperatures will only make it to the mid teens after morning low temperatures dip into the single digits. Wind chill values will be below zero during the morning.

The wind will be less of a factor on Saturday but it will still remain very cold. We'll have sun and some clouds with high temperatures struggling to get to 20 degrees.

We'll get into some briefly milder air on Tuesday as the wind comes around from the south. It won't be the prettiest day with lots of clouds around and just some limited sun. High temperatures will reach into the low 40s. A strong cold front will cross the area late Tuesday night which may be accompanied by a rain or snow shower. It will turn windy and much colder again overnight as the low temperature drops to 23 degrees in Midtown and 13-20 degrees across the colder suburbs.

The gusty wind we've experienced all day will diminish as we move into tonight but it will remain cold.  There will be some clouds around from time to time with more clouds arriving again by daybreak.  The low temperature in Midtown will be 23 degrees with 16-22 degrees.

A storm system will move at us from the west on Saturday. Snow will overspread the area by midday. The snow will fall harder through the afternoon and last into Saturday night. The track of the storm will allow for some warmer air to move in along some coastal locations and that could change the snow over to sleet and freezing rain for a time late in the day south of the city and along the south shore of Long Island. Some sleet may even reach the city by late Saturday night but there will still be significant amounts of snow for the area. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect Saturday into Sunday morning for New York City as well as the northern and western suburbs with a Winter Weather Advisory for the south shore of Long Island as well as the New Jersey shore. Snowfall amounts should range from 2 to 4 inches south of the city and along the south shore of Long Island...4 to 7 inches across the city and the near suburbs...7 to 10 inches further northwest and west.

High temperatures will be in the upper 20s to the low 30s with Saturday nights low temperatures will be in the mid to  upper 20s.

The snow will come to an end during the first part of Sunday morning then breezy and cold air will stick around with a combination of sun and some clouds returning for Sunday afternoon. High temperatures will once again struggle to reach into the low 30s.

Sun and clouds will combine for Monday but it will be quite cold with high temperatures in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees.

Another storm system moves our way from the west for Tuesday.  This will bring clouds with it along with the threat of snow. This system needs to be watched as there is a potential for a coastal storm to develop. If that were to happen we would once again be looking at a significant snowfall but for now expect some snow showers or a period of light snow.  High temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s.

A blast of frigid air, potentially the coldest air of the season, looks to move behind this storm in for Wednesday through Friday. Sun will battle clouds on Wednesday with high temperatures in the mid 20s.

By Thursday the coldest part of this air mass will begin to move upon us.  It will be a blustery day with sun and clouds along with some snow showers.  High temperatures will not rise out of the low 20s with morning low temperatures in the single digits and low teens.

Despite lots of sunshine, Friday will be a frigid day as high temperatures once again struggle to reach the low 20s with morning low in the single digits to around 10 degrees.

Colder air will move into the area overnight with a continued gusty northwest airflow. There will be some clouds around from time to time as the low temperature drops to 26 degrees in Midtown and 18-24 degrees across the colder suburbs.

The gusty northwest wind will return for Friday so despite lots of sunshine, high temperatures will only make it into the mid 30s. The first part of Friday night will be generally clear but clouds will start to filter into the area after midnight. The low temperature will be 25 degrees for Midtown and 15-22 across the suburbs.

The next is our series of storm system will move at us on Saturday. This storm looks to be taking a track from the Mississippi Valley region to the east coast passing south of our area. This will keep us on the colder side of the storm and today's computer models suggest a pretty potent storm system to develop. Thus, Saturday will be cloudy with snow developing by mid to late morning and it will continue through Saturday night.

The steadier and heavier snow will likely occur later in the day into the nighttime hours. High temperatures will struggle to get to 32 degrees. There are no watches or warnings posted yet for the area but on the storm's current track there could be a general 4 to 7 inches of snow across most of our area. Check in with us the closer we get to the storm for an updated forecast.

The snow will come to an end during the first part of Sunday morning then breezy and cold air will stick around with a combination of sun and clouds returning. High temperatures will once again struggle to reach into the low 30s.

Sun and clouds will combine for Monday with high temperatures in the low 30s.

Wednesday's winter storm still has some rain left with us to deal with. There will be areas of light rain in the area through about midnight and there could still be some pockets of freezing rain in the colder valleys well to the north and west of the city. Some snow showers may also start to mix in across those colder locations. Lots of clouds will remain in the area overnight as well with the low temperature heading down to 34 degrees in Midtown and 28-33 degrees across the colder suburbs.

Clouds will break at times for some sun on Thursday and there could be a few snow showers across the northern and western suburbs. Wind will be an issue as it will be strong and gusty out of the west. High temperatures will be in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees.  A fair amount of clouds will remain Thursday night along with a gusty northwest breeze which will usher in colder temperatures. The low temperature will be 26 degrees in Midtown with 18-24 degrees across the suburbs.

Colder air is poised to move in on Friday and despite a good amount of sunshine, high temperatures will only rise into the mid 30s.

A weak storm system will cross the area on Saturday bringing clouds along with the threat of snow.  It should not be a large snowfall but some accumulation is expected.   High temperatures will reach into the mid 30s.

In the wake of this storm, we'll get shot of cold air for Sunday along with sun and clouds and a gusty breeze.  Monday will feature sunshine.  High temperatures will generally be around 30 degrees.

Another system heads our way for Monday bringing back a fair amount of clouds and the threat of snow showers. High temperature will be in the low to mid 30s.

This system will intensify as it heads to our north on Tuesday and may spawn another storm along the coast. This will need to be watched for a potential snow event. For now it looks like just some snow showers with a gusty breezy as high temperatures struggle to reach the freezing mark.

A blast of very cold air looks to move in for Wednesday with a gusty wind.  Sun will battle clouds but high temperatures will not rise out of the mid 20s.

A winter storm will impact the area overnight through Wednesday. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain will overspread the area this evening. This will become rain late tonight in the city and along the coast but the wintry mix will continue across the northern and western suburbs.

There could be a coating up to an inch of sleet in the city and along the coast with 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet across the northern and western suburbs before a changeover to freezing rain. This could lead to more serious problems as up to 1/2 inch of ice may accumulate overnight into Wednesday across the northern and western suburbs. The result could be downed trees and power lines along with icy roads.

Temperatures overnight will slowly rise into the mid 30s for the city and coast and near 30 across the colder suburbs. A Winter Weather Advisory is posted overnight for New York City, much of Long Island, southern Westchester, southern Connecticut, and northeast New Jersey. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect across the northern and western suburbs overnight into Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will feature rain with freezing rain and some sleet during the morning across the northern and western suburbs with pockets of freezing rain still around into the early afternoon. High temperatures will rise into the low 40s in the city and along the coast but remain in the mid 30s inland. It will become breezy during the day as well.

The rain will diminish to showers later Wednesday night with some snow showers possible across the northern and western suburb with all the precipitation coming to an end after midnight. The low temperature will head down to 34 degrees in Midtown and 25-30 degrees across the colder suburbs.

Sun and cloud will combine on Thursday and there could be a few snow showers across the northern and western suburbs. High temperatures will be in the upper 30s but it will be rather breezy so it will feel colder than that.

Colder air is poised to move in on Friday and despite sunshine, high temperatures will only rise into the low and mid 30s.

A weak storm system will cross the area on Saturday bringing lots of clouds along with the threat of snow showers. High temperatures will reach into the mid 30s.

In the wake of this storm, we'll get shot of cold air for Sunday and Monday. Sun and clouds will combine on Sunday along with a gusty breeze. Monday will feature sunshine. High temperatures will generally be around 30 on Sunday and into the low 30s for Monday.

Tuesday will feature another storm to move at us from the south. Thus expect a cloudy day with the threat of snow and rain as high temperatures reach into the mid 30s.

We've had a break from the cold but the break is about to end as colder air moves in overnight. The wind will become northwest to north allowing colder air across the Great Lakes region and southern Canada to head our way. There will be some clouds around from time to time as the low temperature drops to 28 degrees in Midtown and 20-25 degrees.

We may see some sun at times Tuesday morning but the clouds will thicken in the afternoon in advance of the next winter storm to affect the tri-state area. High temperatures will only be in the mid 30s. This storm system will be moving up from the Tennessee Valley by late Tuesday and take a track just to our south during Wednesday. Snow will break out across the entire area Tuesday evening but as warmer air mixes in, the snow will change to sleet and eventually rain in the city and along the coast.

As is common in our winter storms, the inland areas will hold on to the cold air much longer resulting in the snow changing to sleet and then to a prolonged period of freezing rain. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for later Tuesday into Wednesday across the northern and western suburbs due to the accumulation of snow and ice.

Snow and sleet accumulations will range from about 1 to 2 inches in the city and along the coast with 2 to 4 inches across the northern and western suburbs. Temperatures Tuesday night will hold in the low 30s in the city and upper 20s across the colder suburbs then rise into the mid 30s overnight.

Wednesday will feature rain for the city and coast with freezing rain and some rain across the northern and western suburbs. There could be an accumulation of up to one half inch of ice where there is a prolonged period of freezing rain. High temperatures will rise into the low 40s in the city and along the coast but remain in the mid 30s inland.

Sun and cloud will combine on Thursday and there could be a few snow showers around. High temperatures will be in the upper 30s.

Colder air is poised to move in on Friday and despite sunshine, high temperatures will struggle to get above 30 degrees.

A weak storm system will cross the area on Saturday bringing lots of clouds along with snow showers. High temperatures will reach into the mid 30s.

In the wake of this storm, we'll get another blast of cold air for Sunday and Monday. Sun and clouds will combine on Sunday along with gusty breeze and some flurries. Monday will feature sunshine but each day high temperatures will struggle to rise above 30 degrees.

After being in the deep freeze for the last two days, milder air is on the way.  This will come with a price though as clouds will thicken Tuesday evening and we'll get into some precipitation overnight.

Even though the entire area is still below freezing Tuesday evening, by the time the moisture gets here well after midnight, we should climb above freezing in the city and along the coast leading to mainly a rain forecast there. The problem will be for the northern and western suburbs where temperatures will take much longer to reach 32 degrees so there will be sleet and freezing rain occurring over those colder areas.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for this across northwest New Jersey, the lower Hudson Valley and interior southern Connecticut. There may be a small amount of ice that accumulates so keep that in mind for your early morning travel plans. Temperatures should rise to near 30 degrees by daybreak across the colder suburbs and into the mid and upper 30s for the city and along the coast.

A cold front will head toward the tri-state area on Wednesday.  This will create a gusty southwesterly flow of air ahead of the front allowing milder air to move in.  Expect clouds with periods of rain.  High temperatures will rise into the upper 40s and may even hit 50 degrees in New York City. The cold fron will not pass until early Christmas morning so the rain will continue past midnight and then diminish to showers. The low temperature will be 40 degrees in Midtown and 33-38 degrees across the colder suburbs.

With the front clearing the area early Christmas morning we'll return to a combination of sun and some clouds along with a bit of a breeze out of the northwest. It's not really that cold behind the front so look for high temperatures to range in the mid to some upper 40s.

Sun will give way to clouds on Friday with high temperatures in the mid  40s.

A storm system will approach from the west during Saturday so clouds will remain in place along with the threat of rain as somewhat milder temperatures return. Highs will reach into the low 50s.

Showers may linger through Sunday morning with a combination of sun and clouds returning in the afternoon. It won't cool down immediately behind this front so high temperatures should again be in the low 50s.

Lots of sunshine comes in for Monday and Tuesday with more seasonal temperatures. High temperatures will be in the mid 40s on Monday and the low 40s on Tuesday.
