Thoroughbred racing is a high-stakes sport. But are the horses being pushed too hard?

Thoroughbred horses are an expensive investment and in most cases are treated better than we are. No, I don't think that they're pushed too hard, if only to protect their investment! I think that I'm pushed too hard!!

Yes.
There is no need for whipping a horse. Hand rideing a horse will alleviate some of the abuse.

Whipping a horse during a race is pushing a horse beyond the horses natural ability. Hand rideing a horse during a race is within the horses ability.

I think the horses are being pushed too hard. It's not natural for any animal to be pushed to it's limit. EDDIE QUEENS

I don't think horses are being pushed too far. Horses die on a daily basis just by walking or trotting. This happens to be a highly publicized race. That's all.

Horses are a lovely animal sad that they abuse them as they do,then when they get hurt cause they can't make any money from them instead of getting them medical help (surgery) they put them down how sad is that .

Yes they are pushed way to hard. And whipping should be outlawed we don't even whip humans (at least here in the states) anymore because it is inhumane if it's inhumane for humans what all of a sudden makes it right for any other living being period!

There is no way to tell if a horse is going to break down, but fillies should not race against colts because colts are much stronger--Remember RUFFIAN.

I think that the horses are being pushed too hard. Nobody cares when they're placing bets and winning lots of money on these horses.

The horse finished the race and died. It was obviously pushed way past it's natural ability. I think this very sad.

Animals don't owe us anything! They were given the gift of life the same as we were, so stop treating them like machines.

Horse racing is yet another sport driven by human greed to push a beautiful and noble animal past it's natural limit. It is not natural for a horse (or any animal) to spend its life running in circles while being whipped. If someone did this to a human there would immediately be laws to stop it yet somehow this is acceptable to do to a horse? If people want to see a horse run fast why not go and watch one run free?

Ive owned, worked around, and been with horses for more then half of my life. Ive been in competitions and i have never had the need to whip a horse beyond his/hers ability. Thats like you being at work and taking a break and your boss coming in and slapping you across your back with none the less a really painful whip. Theres no reason for it. Money is not that important to abuse horses. They are a gift to us. They are for fun. Not for trying to win billions of dollars by abusing them. Anyone who feels different should get whip and worked as hard as they do. I dont care how well taken care of they are off the track. Being on that track and running them laps is enough pain.

I don't think the horses are pushed too hard. PETA and animal activists everywhere always take everything too far. If the horses are not whipped how are they so pose to run to their full potential?

Eight Belles had already injured one foot during the race, i can see it in a photo. Loads of TBS go to slaughter for human consumption every year. that is the dark of racing, no one wants to know about that. research find out where Ferdinand went at the end of his life, he won the derby. Many TBS are bleeders because of inbreeding, no one cares so it goes on.

of course there going to inbreed. as long as they have the best horse that they could care less about it doesnt matter. because they are winning money. and after that horse dies on their behalf they have another with almost identical genes to replace it. they know how the game works. and its sick. this sport should have been banned many years ago. I understand barrel racing, team penning, jumping to an extent. but this track racing stuff was taken tooooo far
