There was a time when if all you had on you was pocket change, you could still go to work and come home.  That's now ancient history.

There was a time when you wanted to go into the city, it was cheaper to take the railroad and leave the car home.  That's also ancient history.

We're constantly being bombarded with ad campaigns that encourage us to use mass transit.  How can we do that if you keep on raising the fares??  The homeless rate in Manhattan will go up, simply because people are stuck without enough money to get home!  And what about those metro cards that seemingly expire even though you still have rides left on them?  Who are these BOTTOM FEEDING Rocket Scientists  who are making the rules?? Who do they answer to?  Obviously NOT us!

People who live paycheck to paycheck are having a hard enough time trying to make ends meet, but at least make their commute to work affordable.  It's bad enough that taxes keep going up, the cost of heating your house keeps going up, fueling your car, paying for food, etc.... How do you expect people to get to work so they can at least earn enough to pay their bills?

Even though I am very comfortable and fortunately can afford the increase, that still doesn't make it right... I worry about those who are trying to eke out a living and can't keep up with the cost of living!!

I'd love to hear from all of you about how you feel and what you think can be done about it!!  I'd also like to hear from some of the FOX FAMILY in Philly, Chicago, Boston, Houston, L.A.  about the costs of your MASS TRANSIT SYSTEMS!

Hey Bob...

WOW!!! I love this post...you sure got it all right! I know I am dating myself...but I remember when the transit fare in NYC was only .50 cents and how people were outraged when it jumped to .65 cents. I even remember when the MetroCard was first introduced...we had the MetroCard BLUE or the MetroCard GOLD which gave you the free transfers from subway to bus.

Sadly, I am one of those unlucky ones living from paycheck to paycheck. I was laid off my job and struggled with unemployment last year for 6 months before I finally found a job. I wound up losing my apt because I just could not afford another rent increase and now am living with family. It's STILL a struggle since my sister is also out of work. Trying to squeeze pennies more than once is getting increasingly harder every day. And to make it ALL make sense...our transit system is still crappy and a gallon of milk now costs near $5! How do we survive this?? SMH...

I'm so sorry! Believe me I've been there and I will never forget what that felt like. You can't lose hope, gotta have faith and you gotta believe! There's a power mightier than misguided politicians.
YOU GOTTA BELIEVE and NEVER give up!
Believe me, I know what I'm talking about!! Hang in there....

Hey bigbadbob!
I've always said that NYC is a great place to visit, but I would never live there! I'm in Denver and love it! I live downtown and have the option of driving, taking the bus or even walking to and from work. The "local" bus (pretty much all of downtown and the suburbs) is only $1.75 one-way. I have some wonderful memories of the east coast (I lived in Boston for 3 years) but unfortunately, I could never live there. It's WAY TOO expensive. Too bad really, I love it there!

A while back I was in a group called THE JEWELS, We were booked into a club in Colorado Springs called THE ALAMO. We were only booked for two weeks, but they held us over for two and a half months. We LOVED it. And any chance I had to drive north to Denver I jumped on. Loved both places, loved the people and they actually LOVED NY music! If you think that it's expensive in Boston...you should try living in NEW YORK! Your bus fare is less than ours, and I would expect that many other things by you are less too. I hope you still visit THE APPLE, it just keeps getting better!
I really love Denver!!!
Take care and keep in touch...

I remember one trip to NYC back in the early 80's. I was staying in the village and went to an incredible nightclub. I can't recall the name, but there were live statues all over the club, a VW bug parked in the middle of the dance floor and a photo shoot going on for anyone that wanted to do it. I even stood in line with Boy George to go to the bathroom... they were unisex. It was great!! I did love walking the streets of Manhattan and Central Park. I would love to take another trip... I just might have to work that into my schedule!

It'd be worth it! Disney came in and cleaned up the Time Square and 42nd Street area. There's a lot more to see. MTV, ABC TV, The HARD ROCK, DISNEY BROADWAY SHOWS, and on 42nd St. BB King's Club, Madame Tussaud Wax Museum, then east on 42 St behind the NY library Bryant park... Look at this all of a sudden I'm doing a travelouge!!
TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT!!

Hiya, Bob ! Nice of you to visit Cleveland. You are right about " Moe " Bush and Alfred E. Neuman.
As for NYC, i`m sorry but I don`t share your` views on " The Apple ". I drove a charter coach for 33 yrs. and every time they sent me to NYC, or Boston, I counted the hours until I returned home. I think everyone should see NYC, but NO ONE should ever LIVE there. If the Good Lord decided to give the Earth an enema, I know where he would put the hose. LOL ! Stay Safe Buddy !

Casey, Casey, Casey...have you ever considered that after driving a bus for 33 yrs. maybe you might have been cranky?? Huh?? And maybe that your view was from the BUS TERMINAL? I DON'T EVEN go to the BUS TERMINAL!! It's sorta dangerous...That's where they have THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN PICK POCKET!! And trust me as your new friend I would never let them near your nose with that enema nozzle!
Have fun and stay happy..Mr. J!

One question Bob, how ever did you get those Egyptian soldiers to pose in that peculiar position? AND! The next time you have auditions, please let me know! HA! HA!

BTW, why did you insist on having only the female models pose topless? :)

Hey, Bob ! I never went to a bus terminal either. I drove a charter and tour coach.( not a BUS ) I was too busy dodging taxis trying to climb the curb to try to get around me.( no exageration ), A real zoo. Trust me. They could not pay me enough to live there. I`m not puttin` you down buddy. To each his` own. I think the nose thing was funny, but I think you know what I meant. Stay Safe.
Your` Friend, Casey

It seems like working people have to manage money like people retired and on a pension. Must be so careful with the pennies with these rising costs.
At least people who are retired now had the opportunity to save for their retirement when they worked.

Scares the hell out of me for retirees who didn't look at the future and now have to pay these costs - I pray every day that I use the least amount of heating oil that I can. I have become to find that I now Love sweaters and heavier clothing.
