This coming weekend, we'll ALL be observing, NOT celibrating Memorial Day!  Please let us not lose sight of what this day means!

It's a time we put aside to remember all of those who have sacrificed and gave and are STILL giving their lives, so that "WE" can all live free!

Americans should  pay homage to our brave armed forces, our kids, so that we can try to live in peace!

Each year I buy a poppy from the Vets and hang it from my rear view mirror all year long, reminding me of their patriotic sacrifices.

I'm not saying not to have your BBQ'S, but how about we ALL say a little prayer for them as grace before we dig in??

It's the least we can do, and don't forget to pray for those troops who are stiil there and their safe return!

True Bob,

When I hear Memorial Day, my first thoughts are beaches and Summer getaway weekends------the holiday lost it's meaning because of it's place on the calendar.
Thanks for the reminder, we do need to remember what is most important first-----we wouldn't be celebrating anything in life at all if it weren't for our country's true (unsung) heros.

I remember the living Vets like my 88 year old Mother who served as an Army Corp nurse in peace time Italy, when she was younger. I also have a distant reative who fought on the Union side of the US civil war, a late great great cousin, who died from war wounds. I am pround of the living Vets and honor the memory those who died for the US and oveseas freedom

A lot of people don't know or forget the major role that women played in all wars.
And that atrocious Civil war...That should NEVER happened, major needless loses on both sides. We should All be proud of the living Vets we're lucky enough to still have.
Take car..

Well I'm sitting here watching Good Day New York and they keep saying it is Memorial Day but...the reporters are out and about at empty beaches and at an African dance fest. They also had on a Gospel choir. Why aren't they at Memorial Day festivities around town and why didn't they have an Armed Forces choir sing? Oh yes they do keep mentioning you can honor your loved ones online. "Share a story online at myfoxny.com." It makes you wonder, doesn't it?? How about closing the show with the "Battle Hymn of the Republic"? Never happen. God bless our troops past, present and future. "So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our heads" (from a Toby Keith song). We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your service to our country. Wait a minute, hold on... they are closing the show with Marie Digby a singer/songwriter who posted herself on You Tube so that she could be discovered. Isn't this a great country we live in?? Its all about freedom. Thank you troops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right, but I'm sure it was unintentional. Nevertheless, they could have spent some time reflecting. I don't know if you missed it, but the Long Beach Parade coverage did have some Veterans talking about it though. I agree their should've been more said and done.
