I've been down in the dumps lately (I do live just north of Fresh Kills, but no pun intended) and I was wondering what cheers you up when you're sad. I've tried pretty much everything but I still don't really find any motivation in my life. Has anyone gone through something similar? Thanks in advance.

Hi Gertrude:
Here's something that might help you,I normally blog sports, however, you're more important than my Mets,if you need more help let me know, read the following information and look up the Scriptures in your Bible,it works for me,give it a try, what have you got to loose but a few minutes of your time?
“Prevent It”
“The most important advice I can give is, ‘Prevent it,”’ said one sufferer. But how? There are no easy or sure answers. Some authorities suggest:
1. Don’t build your sense of worth on love, money, social position, power or drugs. The failure of these could be devastating if you do.
2. Set realistic expectations. Aim to do the best you can, but not to be a perfectionist.
3. Recognize the early symptoms (anxiety, panic, inability to concentrate). Check to see if your daily schedule is reasonable. If not, adjust it. Learn to say “No” when necessary.

Prayer and a Relationship with God
One of the ways that God helps is by providing his Word, the Bible, which shows how to make one’s family life better; how to get along with others; how to avoid conduct that can create anxiety and guilt; and how to choose worthwhile works and goals in life. Following this information can help relieve many stressful situations that bring depression.—Col. 3:5-14, 18-21; 1 Tim. 6:9, 10, 17-19.
Even with strong faith one who is suffering from depression may have doubts, perhaps feeling that God has abandoned him. But never stop praying! “I prayed daily—five and six times intensely,” said one mother who was so depressed that she could barely get out of bed for months. “I

“I begged and begged for help. I pleaded that God would give me the proper direction to find a doctor that knew what was wrong and could help me. I prayed for strength just to keep going and keep things straight enough so I wouldn’t do any more damage to my family.” Such persistence paid off. She endured until appropriate medication relieved her major depression

Being down in the dumps A LITTLE WHILE is good. If you didn't do this, how would you know when you were happy? Bet your furry little friend shows you how to be happy. Many years ago, my sister-in-law was screaming at my friend and I. My German Shepherd assessed the situation, sniffed her leg, and lifted his, right down her leg and into her boot. Off she went, stomp, squish, stomp, squish. So whenever something happens that I can't do anything about, I just say, "Oh well, p--s on it!" Laugh at the memory and get onto something I can do something about.

Hi Puravida, YOU ARE WONDERFUL! So many people pray for someone ELSE to fix the problem they made for themselves.

I also ask for GUIDANCE ON HOW I CAN FIX IT! Then, I meditate for the answer. Prayer is asking. What sense is there is asking if you don't LISTEN in meditation for the ANSWER?!

Problems can be the spice of life. Fix them yourself, and you grow and learn, and you are even a better person than you were before.

Fresh Kills is not bad. Imagine if it was Old Stinky Kills, Side of the road Kills, etc. Wonder why/how that name came to be for that area?

Ah ha -‘Kill' is derived from old Dutch and means stream, brook or channel. The usage of the word ‘kill' is seen frequently in place names throughout New York City and State where early Dutch settlement occurred. It is thought that the name Fresh Kills is derived from the historical natural features of the site which, prior to landfilling, was dominated by a vast tidal wetland fed by fresh water springs and streams. It was not uncommon to use ‘fresh' when naming places with such springs. Fresh Kills, specifically, appeared as a place name by 1750.
