NYC's stand on the leeching of money off the backs of the working class is one of the biggest scams in the US. $65 tickets $50 surcharges including no available parking anywhere south of 66th and north of 30th for tons of spaces that are not even used for anything but collecting revenue.and dont forget no standing 6am to 8pm or whatever seems peachyest, or alt side street parking, because those street cleaners really clean up the streets well. And if you get a ticket have fun wasting your time trying to fight it like anything can be proven, it your word against the dept of finance. And those scanners the meter maids tote around real hard job being a jerk, i have seen and had them scan cars with people still sitting in them! And Not a word they jump into there city funded cars and away they go! Real CPR. are you kidding me no where else in the states would they get away with that kind of garbage it is distgusting the way we let the rich decide whats the right amount of money to pay considering most of them dont even drive, whens the last time bloomie drove himself anywhere or any higher up politician that ends up creating all these great ideas at your expense.

And congestion pricing plan gimme a break,it should be congestion pricing SCAM, i thought the original ideas behind tolls was to pay off the construction and up keep of said bridge or tunnel, not to support the pockets of people who manage to misappropreate billons of dollars whos responsible? I  got an idea why doesn't NYC charge a fee for rental of air space, think about it the city could make a fourtune! everyone breathes right why not charge them for it and we could give city employees free breathing passes! and issue tickets for spaces that are "no breathing zones" even if there was no reason for being a no breathing zone that way the city could bank even more on a free for all ticket blitz! On breathing! How bout a fat cat tax, nobody wants to EARN there money anymore thyey just think everything should be handed to them including the city, this trend of pay all for nothing in return has got to end. People speak out, MTA's rasing prices every 2 years misplacing billons of dollars in revunue whos overseeing all this anyone?outside the people that profit off of creative verbal wrangling its almost like if you can say it you can charge a fee for it. Its pretty lame.:(

Why would they NOT scan a car if someone was sitting in it? A car that is in violation.. is the same be it a live person in it or not...no? In your thinking it should be allowed for people to be obstacles in the road ( double parked, taking up handicapped ramps, idle in bus stops and granny cant get in the bus safely..etc etc..) creating traffic ,, so long as they sit in their cars?

I think conjestion pricing is a good idea..these days any loser with *99 dollars down and a checking account * can own a car. It makes it very hard on manhattan , because there is way much going on, many people in and out of it, can you imagine if every single person who traveled in and out of the city had a car?? Aye... how terrible that would be.

the gripe i have is not that they scan a car with or without a person in it, its the attitude and disrespect, but its sad commentary on how people "other human beings" dont even have the respect to simply ask a driver to simply move their car for any of the possible reasons listed above, look if you park like a jerk get a ticket but most of the tickets given out are due to things that have nothing to do with SAFTEY or traffic flow but instead i personally feel all rules and reg set are primarily not for saftey but for the explicit use of generating revune to the insaitable appitetite of the nycs dept of finance.

And dont worry mass transit (for now) is still a cheaper and more economical means of transportation and beats looking for parking in manhattan. Besides the trains arent full enough during the morning rush as it is, and what a wonderful reason to increses mta fares yet again for the increase in ridership during peak and non peak hrs, that is after the congestion pricing scam would go into effect

I get what your gripe is about, but just like anything else in life, not everyone is the same. I have been asked to move a few times.

Its like this, if I went along with the idea that one apple spoils a whole bunch, Id not like, police, teachers, doctors, ok..just about everyone.

Also there are situations where no standing is not allowed at all, in those places, well they really dont have to tell you to move, its your responsibility to not be an obstacle. I cant tell you how many times I wished people were given tickets when they inconvenienced me.
:(

It's perfectly understandable that parking rules need to be enforced to prevent chaos. That's why there are specific, no standing zones and strict parking rules in busy areas of the city. One of the biggest problems arises when parking enforcement goes after people parking in front of their own homes. They are like vultures on my block. I live close to a precinct and close to a vehicle impound yard. It's no coincidence that your car can get ticketed and towed in less than 3 minutes, sometimes within seconds of the alternate street parking time. There is no other explanation but the one harlen provides. The city knows that such enforcement is easy money and that's why they do it. None of the enforcement on my block makes anybody any safer. The street cleaners are a joke and a complete waste of time and taxpayer dollars. As far as respect, that's a joke. The ticket writers in the Bronx where I live rarely (if ever) show even the slightest sign of respect or kindness. The tow truck drivers are little more than glorified thieves for the city. There is a name for what they do. It's called extortion!

So sorry thats been your experience Daniel! Maybe my issues stand better in a more crowded area like washington heights..lower manhattan..etc. I will admit some can be quite sneaky :( Where I am in the BX isnt a big deal, well..ok maybe not for me since I always make sure I read the signs well. ( I would NEVER hear the end of it at home if i got a ticket for being careless :)

sounds like someone has family in da biz,..Dan the man!!!!! Vultures is the Best description i've heard thus far, And it is exactly that extortion! I gotta start a new blog w/ this congestion pricing plan... excuse me, SCAM! does not want to go away does bloomie really want the only thing hell be remembered for (after his term) is putting tolls at every crossing into manhattan(on top of doubling parking ticket fees) Thats a pretty sad legacy if you ask me, I would like to take a poll (an un biased one heh!)of all the new yorkers that can say they felt an improved "Quality of life" in NY after NYC started getting twice to three times the amount of revenue after doubling tickets and increasing revenue vultures, where did the money go? and where is it going still? Anyone else care?

I am for congestion pricing in lower manhattan ! My reasons are, when I go into manhattan, I would love it if I could breath better! Its gotten way out of control with these days and how easy it is for anyone to own a car. Sooooo many people, so little space :( I do admit the prices seem a bit much,,, but how else would people be forced to use mass transit?

sad... but all to true rockhead71 working class in nyc are treated like lower class. Jerks in office do nothing but line their own pockets w/ kickbacks and "hidden agendas" figuring out the next line of crap to feed the people to excuse the next hike in whatever fare they think has less attention weather it be taxes, congestion pricing scams, or fare hikes, its all a bunch of BS everyone is lying an not enough truth around to make heads or tails of any of it!
