In the near future, the cool web site you heard about on Fox 5 (because that's the only station you watch.. and My 9 and Fox News Channel :-> ) may be easier to remember.  Here's why: the Internet's oversight company (what? yes, someone has to keep an eye on the darn thing) is expected to allow YOU to pick the suffix (let's go back to school for a second: prefix means before, suffix means after.) So the ".com" or ".gov" or ".whatever"  you must use to create a web site now because that's how the Internet Oversight Committee likes it will be more flexible. You'll be able to use ".bank" (if you're a bank) or ".nyc" (if you're New York City.) There are probably some more limitations to the expanding rule.. oh, and it will cost at least $100,000 (chump change, right?) I like the idea.

The migration to the new suffixes will be funny to watch for a while, especially sites like USBank.bank or nyc.nyc.

I want to buy ItsyBitsyTeenieWeenieYellowPolka.bikini!

I'll check it out with Luke again, but thanks for responding so quickly. Sorry about the GOOFY blog, but hey it worked as an icebreaker. It's early, I get funnier as the day goes on! Kathy,
That will eliminate a lot of the people who bought names and try to sell them for crazy amounts. For example imagine if I bought colgate.com what they would pay me to get that name? That will be all gone. hey there's an idea colgate.toothpaste or www.toothpaste.colgate
lol

I'm pretty sure that "cybersquatting" is the main reason for the change. With the new suffix policy in place, companies will no longer have to pay large sums for a site name somebody else already bought. They'll simply use a different suffix and then sue the squatter later for having a site name that infringes on their intellectual property. A'int life grand!
