People can debate whether or not fuel oil tucks should be allowed in the Lincoln Tunnel.
But there was a clear policy in place due mainly to terrorist concerns that the trucks should be banned. That message somehow either was ignored or was not passed along properly to cops and toll booth people, who are the first line of defense at the tunnel.
At least the TSA still makes grandma take her sneakers off at the airport, and the NYPD is asking terrorists to "voluntarily" have their bags checked in the subway.
Love to hear your opinion.
Kudos on your story about the tanker trucks entering the Lincoln Tunnel. What about the Holland Tunnel? It's absurd to even think that the Port Authority Police would allow even a fuel oil truck to enter the Lincoln Tunnel when they don't even know for a fact that the tanker truck contains fuel oil and not gasoline. A terrorist who knows that fuel oil trucks are allowed in the tunnel wouldn't hesitate to fill up the truck with gasoline and label it "fuel oil."
HERBERTHow about gasoline trucks crossing the George Washington Bridge. If a terrorist wanted to blow up the bridge would a 9,000-gallon tanker truck do the job? I understand that 9,000 gallons of gasoline is the equivalent of 144,000 sticks of dynamite. Also, I think that the cost of rebuilding the GW Bridge is in the neighborhood of $1 BILLION. I realize that gasoline tanker trucks have to drive over a bridge to get from New York to New Jersey, or vice versa, but what assurance does the Port Authority have that the truck driver is not a terrorist? Please investigate this story. Keep up the good work!
